Why Us
Here at Midwest Vision Care in Piqua, we strongly believe that a comprehensive pediatric eye exam is just as important as any other medical check-up. A child’s vision is essential for learning and development, but in many cases undetected vision conditions will go with unnoticed symptoms unless reviewed properly by an expert. Dr. Valerie Gardner is a speaker for “Realeyes” presentations, visiting local schools and educating children on their eyes and vision. She is our in-house InfantSEE provider and believes that all school-age children should have routine eye exams to prevent possible complications that could later affect their schoolwork. We are passionate about healthy eyes and healthy children and believe they go hand-in-hand! We are more than qualified to perform pediatric vision care, and you can rest assured that your children’s eyes are in good hands.
How often should my child have an eye exam?
We begin pediatric eye care as young as six months old with an InfantSEE exam, a free eye exam for infants ages 6-12 months that will thoroughly assess your child’s vision to assure that development is on track as well as detecting eye turns or any other possible ailment so that treatment can be addressed. You can find out more at www.infantsee.org.
We will administer another eye exam for your 3 year old child, just to make sure their eyes are developing at a proper pace. By the time your child is 5, we recommend annual check-ups due to their fleeting growth rate. Eye exams on school-age children are particularly important because undetected vision problems can put a child’s learning abilities at risk. Some of these symptoms include:
- Frequent eye rubbing or blinking
- Short attention span
- Avoiding reading and other close activities
- Frequent headaches
- Covering one eye
- Tilting the head to one side
- Holding reading materials close to the face
- An eye turning in or out
- Seeing double
- Losing place when reading
- Difficulty remembering what he or she read
We cannot recommend enough how important we believe pediatric eye to care to be, which is why we are here for the Piqua area to serve as your trusted pediatric vision center and to treat your children with the patience and consideration they deserve!
